  • As Sharjah’s first licensed Charge Point Operator, ION is collaborating with SRTA to deploy, operate, and maintain 100+ fast EV Chargers in the emirate
  • Public-private collaboration aligns with new regulatory framework to accelerate EV adoption in Sharjah and supports wider UAE future-ready infrastructure development

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has signed a landmark agreement with ION, the sustainable mobility joint venture between BEEAH and Crescent Enterprises, to deploy a large network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the emirate. In collaboration with SRTA, ION will be deploying, operating and maintaining a network of over 100 fast EV chargers as Sharjah’s first appointed Charge Point Operator, positioning the venture at the forefront of the UAE’s EV infrastructure development.

The strategic agreement was signed at the BEEAH Headquarters by H.E. Eng. Yousif Khamis Mohammed Al Othmani, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, and Khaled Al Huraimel, Chairman of ION and Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH, in the presence of high-level officials and senior executives from SRTA, ION, BEEAH, and Crescent Enterprises. The agreement follows the Sharjah Executive Council’s recent resolution introducing a comprehensive regulatory framework governing EV charging infrastructure, supporting green mobility ambitions in the emirate.

Speaking on the agreement, H.E. Eng. Yousif Khamis Mohammed Al Othmani, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, said: “The project will deploy more than 100 fast EV chargers distributed across Sharjah City, the Central Region, and the Eastern Region, meeting the needs of an increasing number of EV users. SRTA remains committed to advancing electric mobility in Sharjah, keeping pace with international efforts in promoting sustainability, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing the green mobility ecosystem, including electric buses and taxis.”

He emphasized the importance of collaborating with key government stakeholders in Sharjah. “Through coordinated efforts with the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), we will ensure the project is implemented at the highest standards within established timelines. We commend SEWA’s active role in facilitating procedures, approving plans, and issuing permits, reflecting integrated government efforts to enhance the experience of EV users and achieve sustainability targets,” Al Othmani added.

The network of over 100 fast EV chargers will be supported by ION’s integrated mobile application, enabling EV users to navigate to a nearby charger using the map, plug in, track the charging session in real time, and make payments seamlessly.

Khaled Al Huraimel, Chairman of ION and Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH, said: “ION is proud to be Sharjah’s first licensed Charge Point Operator, working with our partners to build an accessible, future-ready EV charging ecosystem in the emirate that aligns with the UAE’s sustainability goals and net-zero ambitions. Through ION’s end-to-end platform, we will offer a more connected charging experience for EV users, while supporting charger owners and operators with the tools they need to help grow and manage a reliable, efficient green mobility network.”

The project builds on the successful launch of ION’s unified EV charging platform in October 2025 during the Evolve Future Mobility Show in Sharjah. Through their collaboration, ION and SRTA are setting the benchmark for smarter, more efficient EV charging that connects the entire EV ecosystem in the emirate.

Tushar Singhvi, ION Board Member and Deputy CEO of Crescent Enterprises, said: “This partnership marks an important step in building the enabling infrastructure for the next generation of mobility in the UAE. We are proud to partner with SRTA to advance ION’s role in Sharjah and develop a connected, future-ready charging network designed for long-term growth. It reflects our broader investment approach at Crescent Enterprises – backing scalable platforms in the UAE and globally that integrate infrastructure, technology, and operational capability to deliver long-term value at scale.”

ION’s EV charging network will play a critical role in integrating sustainable mobility solutions across Sharjah, complementing broader efforts to reduce emissions, enhance urban liveability, and support the UAE’s transition to a low-carbon future.
