New release combines enterprise-grade support with an open source foundation as OpenChoreo joins the CNCF Sandbox

WSO2 today announced the General Availability (GA) of the WSO2 Developer Platform for OpenChoreo 1.0. This launch enables organizations across the Middle East to build, deploy, and scale modern digital services—including AI-powered applications and autonomous agents—faster and more securely without vendor lock-in.

Open Source Foundation and CNCF Integration

At its core, OpenChoreo is an open-source platform originally developed by WSO2 to help organizations create everything from customer-facing apps to AI-driven autonomous agentic systems. In a strategic move to ensure the platform remains vendor-neutral, WSO2 has contributed OpenChoreo to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), where it has been accepted as a Sandbox Project. This ensures the platform is community-driven and built on open standards that evolve with the global technology ecosystem.

Enterprise-Grade Support for Production Environments

With the GA release, WSO2 complements this open-source core with enterprise-grade support, service-level agreements (SLAs), and architectural guidance. This allows businesses to operationalize OpenChoreo at scale with:

  • Faster Rollouts: Rapid deployment of new digital experiences.
  • Seamless Integration: Simplified connection between legacy and modern systems.
  • Structured AI Deployment: A clear path for introducing intelligent automation and autonomous agents that optimize performance in real time.

Eliminating Vendor Lock-in Through Open Governance

The platform’s acceptance into the CNCF Sandbox reduces the risk of vendor lock-in by utilizing open governance. No single vendor controls the roadmap, encouraging continuous innovation from a global community. The WSO2 Developer Platform adds necessary enterprise layers—including 24/7 global support, proactive security updates, and direct access to maintainers—without altering the open-source foundation.

“Organizations today are building intelligent, adaptive digital systems,” said Lakmal Warusawithana, Product Manager for Choreo at WSO2. “By contributing OpenChoreo to the community, we’ve ensured it remains open and future-ready. Our enterprise support now means organizations can innovate with confidence and compete effectively in an AI-driven economy.”
